HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Cabrini men's basketball team had its 10-game win streak ended Saturday afternoon in an 81-80 loss at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary College. The loss is the first for the Cavaliers this season in 10 games versus CSAC foes.
Junior forward Dom Farrello powered the Cabrini offense, scoring in double figures for the sixth straight game with a team-high 20 points. Farrello shot 9-for-16 from the field overall, including a 2-for-4 shooting clip from long range.
Senior forward Kevin Misevicius tallied 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Freshman point guard Cory Lemons contributed 17 points, seven helpers, four boards and four steals.
Sophomore forward Brandon Carter totaled eight points and junior combo guard Lamar Fisher chipped in six points.
The Cavaliers led by three points at halftime, 39-36. Cabrini shot 50.0 percent from the field in the opening half for the seventh time in 2009-10.
Farrello and Lemons each scored 11 points for the Blue & White in the first half. Misevicius added eight and five rebounds.
Cabrini's lead ballooned to nine points, 58-49, at the 16:04 mark. However, the Cyclones rallied with a 13-5 run over the next five minutes to trim its deficit to one point, 63-62, with 11:12 remaining in the second half.
Centenary secured its first lead of the game, 71-70, after a lay-in from Corey Kearney at the 6:24 mark. Two possessions later, the Cavaliers grabbed a lead, 72-71, it would hold onto until the final minute of regulation.
The Cyclones staked claim to a one-point edge, 79-78, with 30 seconds remaining following a lay-in from Jakub Halicki. Cabrini answered with a jump-shot from Carter with 18 seconds on the clock, putting the visitors ahead, 80-79.
Following a Cavaliers' timeout, junior guard Rob Urie supplied Centenary with the game-winning bucket, a jump-shot with six seconds on the clock. Cabrini's last possession went empty after committing its 13th turnover of the game.
Senior forward Ryan Kearney led all scorers with 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting. Kearney notched a double-double, also claiming 10 rebounds. Urie tallied 18 points. Sophomore guard Ludner Innocent (13) and junior forward Corey Kearney (12) also reached double figures.
The Cavaliers turned 20 Centenary turnovers into 29 points. Cabrini out-scored the hosts on the break, 18-8, and off the bench, 16-6.
The Blue & White remains two games ahead in the loss column of Keystone College (9-3 CSAC), Immaculata University (8-3) and Gwynedd-Mercy College (8-3) in the CSAC standings.
Cabrini (16-2, 10-1) returns to the Nerney Field House hardware Monday, Feb. 1 versus CSAC opponent Baptist Bible College. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
