GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – For the second time this season, junior forward Eric Collins provided the heroics for the Cabrini men's soccer team, lifting the Cavaliers to a 2-1 double-overtime victory at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon. The win is Cabrini's third straight and sixth in the last seven matches.
Collins netted the winning tally, an unassisted marker, in the 108th minute. He also supplied the decisive score in the Cavaliers' 2-1 overtime win at CSAC foe Rosemont College on Sept. 25.
With four matches remaining in the regular season, Collins leads the Blue & White offense with 21 points on 10 goals and one assist. In 56 career matches played at Cabrini, he owns 39 points with 17 scores and five helpers.
Gwynedd-Mercy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Lou Vessels beat Cavaliers freshman goalkeeper Eric Nowicki.
However, the Cavaliers pulled even with the Griffins in the 25th minute with freshman midfielder Taylor Scarpino's second goal of the season. The ensuing 83 minutes played scoreless until Collins' golden goal.
Cabrini out-shot the Griffins for the match, 13-11. Collins and freshman midfielder C.J. Doherty led the charge, each recording three shot attempts.
Nowicki earned his fifth win of the season with three saves. John Furphy posted five saves in the loss for Gwynedd-Mercy.
Cabrini (6-8-0, 4-1-0) continues its CSAC regular season schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Neumann University. Match time against the Knights is set for 4 p.m.
