ASTON, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team had its three-match win streak snapped on Wednesday night, dropping a 3-2 decision at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Neumann University. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Juhring scored one goal and assisted on another for the Cavaliers in the loss.
The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring two goals separated by less than five minutes in the first half. Freshman forward Evan Morgan netted Neumann's first score in the 28th minute before junior midfielder Lee Collins found the back of the net in the 32nd minute.
Cabrini trimmed its deficit in half less than two minutes following the opening whistle of the second period when freshman midfielder Gabe Kuhn deposited his second goal of the season off a feed from Juhring.
Neumann reclaimed a two-goal cushion in the 63rd minute after junior midfielder Paul Konneh converted a feed from sophomore forward Michael Frei. Frei also earned an assist on Collins' marker.
The Blue & White again pulled itself to within one score less than four minutes later. Freshman forward Ryan Cerrato found Juhring for his first goal of the season at the 65:54 mark. However, the Neumann defense held the Cavaliers without the equalizer for the closing 24 minutes of play.
The Knights out-shot Cabrini for the match, 20-12.
Bob Mastrillo posted seven saves for Neumann in the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Eric Nowicki earned the loss in between the pipes for the Cavaliers and stopped six shots.
With three matches remaining in the regular season, the Blue & White finds itself in fourth place in the CSAC standings, owning a 4-2-0 conference mark. Neumann sits tied atop the standings with Marywood University at 6-0-0.
Cabrini (6-9-0, 4-2-0) returns to Edith Robb Dixon Field for its final home match versus Philadelphia Biblical University on Saturday, Oct. 23. Match time against the Crimson Eagles is set for 4 p.m.
