RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team had its three-match win streak snapped on Tuesday night at Edith Robb Dixon Field after a 3-2 double-overtime loss against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary College. Junior forward Eric Collins scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season for the Cavaliers in the loss.
The Cyclones netted the game-winning tally in the second overtime session and 103rd minute when junior back Kyle Thompson converted a corner kick feed from junior forward Andrew Pinnella.
Centenary rallied from two goals down midway through the first half and scored three unanswered goals en route to the victory.
Cabrini quickly jumped out to a 1-0 advantage with Collins' fifth goal in the last four matches. After taking a pass from freshman midfielder C.J. Doherty, Collins found some space just inside the box and ripped a shot inside the near post and past Centenary junior goalkeeper Jason Rogers.
The Cavaliers pushed their lead to two goals, 2-0, in the 31st minute with freshman midfielder Taylor Scarpino's first career goal. Scarpino re-directed a flick feed into the box from sophomore midfielder Ryan Juhring. Junior back Kyle Johnson also earned an assist on the play, setting up the score with his throw-in along the far sideline.
However, the Cyclones trimmed their deficit in half less than eight minutes before the intermission. Jimmy Corey pulled Centenary to within one goal in the 38th minute off a feed from junior forward Daniel Berniz.
Berniz evened the scoring at 2-2 in the 70th minute, taking a pass down the right sideline from Thompson and striking a shot attempt that buried into the opposite panel.
Centenary out-shot the Blue &White for the match, 13-12.
Rookie goalkeeper Eric Nowicki notched four saves for Cabrini in the loss. Rogers earned the victory, posting five stops.
The loss is the Cavaliers first against a CSAC opponent in just over a year, snapping a 10-match win streak. The Blue & White's last loss in conference play came on the road at Immaculata University, 4-1, on Oct. 3, 2009.
Cabrini (3-8-0, 1-1-0) resumes its CSAC regular season schedule at Edith Robb Dixon Field on Saturday, Oct. 9 against Keystone College. Match time with the Giants is set for 2:30 p.m.
