Listen to Head Coach Glen Jaskelewicz Interview
Junior forward Eric Collins scored three goals and the Cabrini men's soccer team returned to the win column with a 4-1 victory against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Keystone College on Saturday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Sophomore midfielder Pat Wehring also netted his first career goal for the Cavaliers in the victory.
Collins put Cabrini on the scoreboard in the 11th minute, connecting from just inside the box on a pass from freshman midfielder Taylor Scarpino. He added his second goal of the match and the eventual game-winning tally in the 57th minute off a feed from freshman midfielder C.J. Doherty.
Wehring supplied the Blue & White with a two-goal cushin, 3-1, in the 81st minute, re-directing a re-start kick from senior back Troy Allen.
Collins iced the match with his third goal of the afternoon and team-leading eighth of the year in the 84th minute, converting a feed from senior back Mitchel Snodgrass on the run at the top of the box. Collins has scored each of his eight goals on the season over the last five matches.
The Cavaliers out-shot Keystone for the match, 15-7. Collins recorded a team-high seven shot attempts.
Freshman goalkeeper Eric Nowicki totaled six saves for the Cavaliers, earning his third win of the season. Nowicki made a brilliant diving stop mid-way through the second half to preserve the Blue & White's one-goal advantage, stabbing Keystone junior forward Nate Coehlo's equalizer attempt from the air.
Freshman netminder Daniel O'Rourke tallied five saves in the loss for the Giants.
Cabrini (4-8-0, 2-1-0) plays its fifth straight match at Edith Robb Dixon Field on Wednesday, Oct. 13 versus Baptist Bible College. Match time against the Defenders is set for 6:30 p.m.
