SCRANTON, Pa. – The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) will crown a new champion in men's soccer for the first time since the 2007 campaign after No. 3 seed Cabrini's 3-1 loss versus No. 2 seed Marywood University on Thursday night. Senior back Troy Allen netted the Cavaliers' lone goal in the season-ending defeat.
The Pacers owned a 3-0 advantage at the intermission, sparked by two goals separated by less than five minutes mid-way through the opening period. Brandon Ritter got Marywood on the board in the 23rd minute before Christian Lawlor scored the eventual game-winner in the 28th minute.
The Pacers pushed their lead to three goals, 3-0, in the 40th minute with Lawlor second marker of the contest. Ryan Jones earned his second assist of the match on the score.
Marywood out-shot Cabrini for the match overall, 17-9, including a 12-1 advantage in the first half.
Allen helped the Blue & White avoid the shutout with his first goal of the season and the 10th of his career in the 59th minute. Allen, a three-time CSAC First Team selection and all-region honoree last season, finishes his Cabrini career with 33 points on 10 goals and 13 assists.
Shane Quinn was credited with the victory for the Pacers between the pipes, tallying five saves. Freshman goalkeeper Eric Nowicki notched three stops in the loss for the Cavaliers.
The loss also marks the final match in the careers for seniors Steve Reynolds, King Saah, Mitchel Snodgrass and Mike Viscariello. Reynolds, Saah, Viscariello with Allen each helped the Cavaliers to two CSAC titles and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2009.
Saah, always an offensive threat during his sophomore and junior seasons, was hampered throughout his final campaign with an injury. He ends his Blue & White tenure with 23 career points, scoring 10 goals and adding three assists.
Snodgrass joined the Cavaliers at the start of the 2010 campaign, appearing in 17 matches and making seven starts on defense. He totaled one point with one assist.
The victory advances Marywood to the CSAC title match versus No. 1 seed Neumann University on Saturday, Nov. 6.
