GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Senior forward Kevin Misevicius topped a second scoring milestone in two games as the 22nd-ranked Cabrini men's basketball team held off Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Gwynedd-Mercy College Monday night. The Cavaliers have won five straight games and 15 of the last 16 contests overall.
Misevicius led five Cavaliers in double figures with 21 points, including the 2,000th of his college career. He scored the milestone basket at the 13:03 mark of the second half. Misevicius tallied 14 of his 21 points before the intermission
Misevicius joined the Cabrini team last season from Lehigh Carbon Community College, where he scored a combined 972 points in two years. He is just one game removed from becoming the 14th player all-time to reach the 1,000-point plateauat Cabrini in a 91-77 win versus Marywood University Feb. 13.
Sophomore forward Dan Robinson shot 7-for-10 from the field overall and scored a career-high 19 points. Robinson drained 2-of-2 3-point attempts and grabbed five rebounds. He has played nine games with the Cavaliers as a mid-season transfer in December from Division II East Stroudsburg University.
Sophomore forward Brandon Carter also netted a career high, scoring 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting overall. Carter converted 2-of-3 triple attempts and handed out four assists.
Junior forward Dom Farrello mixed 15 points with five boards and three steals. Freshman point guard Cory Lemons totaled 10 points and dished five helpers against zero turnovers. Lemons has not committed a turnover in each of the last two games played.
The Cabrini offense has scored five scorers in double figures in three games this season and shot better than 40.0 percent overall on 21 different occasions. The Cavaliers drained 10-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc versus the Griffins.
The Blue & White led by as much as 16 points, 79-63, with 7:46 remaining in the second half. Gwynedd-Mercy pulled with five points, 91-86, in the final 30 seconds.
However, Cabrini iced its second win against the Griffins this season at the foul line. The Cavaliers last swept the season series against the Griffins in 2002-03.
Senior point guard Matt Johnson paced five Gwynedd-Mercy players in double figures with a game-high 26 points. Junior forward Jon Hogga posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Cabrini, owner of the No. 1 seed and home-court advantage throughout the CSAC Tournament for the first time since the 1999-00 campaign, moved up two spots to No. 22 in today's D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Cavaliers have won 21 games in a single season for the 12th time in program history and second straight year under second-year head coach Marcus Kahn.
Cabrini (21-2, 15-1) will host its annual senior night Thursday, Feb. 18 versus Centenary College. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Misevicius, senior forward Chris Blake and senior guard Corey White will be honored prior to the game's opening tip.
