RADNOR, Pa – For the second straight season under second-year head coach Marcus Kahn, the 21st-ranked Cabrini men's basketball team has advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) final following an 89-68 win versus Immaculata University in the conference tournament semifinal round Tuesday at Nerney Field House.
The victory is the Cavaliers' 24th overall in 2009-10 and matches a program record for most wins in a single-season. Cabrini has won 24 games in a season just three times prior (1985-86, 1986-87, 1995-96).
Freshman point guard Cory Lemons powered the Blue & White against Immaculata, scoring a game-high 20 points, grabbing nine rebounds and handing out seven assists. Lemons shot 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
Senior forward Kevin Misevicius struggled from the field early, but found his offensive rhythm as the game progressed, finishing with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Misevicius also posted five blocked shots.
Sophomore forward Dan Robinson notched the first double-double of his Cabrini career, pairing 10 points with a career-best 13 rebounds. Robinson is coming on at the right time for the Cavaliers having scored in double figures in each of the last four games.
Sophomore forward Brandon Carter tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Dom Farrello and freshman center Goran Dulac each scored seven points.
Cabrini led Immaculata at halftime, 41-27. The Cavaliers closed the opening 20 minutes on a 12-3 run over the last four-plus minutes. Lemons had 11 points at the intermission.
The Blue & White opened the second half on a 21-8 spurt and grabbed a game-high 27-point advantage, 62-35, at the 15:11 mark. Misevicius scored 10 of his 16 points after the break, shooting 4-for-7 from the field overall.
Sophomore slashing guard Robert Siter charged the Mighty Macs attack with a team-best 17 points. Freshman guard Nelson Torres scored 11 of his 15 points from the charity stripe.
The Cavaliers improve their record to 12-0 this season at home. The Blue & White has won 23 straight games at Nerney Field House versus CSAC opponents, including the postseason, dating back to the 2007-08 campaign. Under Kahn, Cabrini is 19-0 on its home court against conference foes.
Cabrini has hosted the conference championship game five times before, including a stretch of four consecutive years from 1993 – 96. However, the Cavaliers have not played for the title on its home floor since the 1997-98 campaign.
Cabrini (24-2) will host third-seeded Neumann University Friday for the right to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Neumann won on the road tonight, 69-65, at second-seeded Keystone College. Game time versus the Knights is yet to be determined.
