HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team returned to the diamond for the first time in 14 days Thursday afternoon, traveling to Centennial Conference foe Haverford College. The Fords earned a two-game sweep versus the Cavaliers, winning game one, 6-1, and game two, 1-0.
Sophomore 3B Ryan McDonough led the Blue & White in game one, tallying three hits in three at-bats. McDonough notched the Cavaliers' lone RBI, plating senior 2B Cheri Johns on a single to left field in the third inning.
Sophomore SS Sammy Thompson recorded two hits for Cabrini in the lead-off position.
Senior P Liz Zimmer pitched five innings in game one. Zimmer struck out two batters and allowed just one earned run on nine hits. Rookie hurler Kristin Whitmore tossed a scoreless inning in the sixth.
Haverford senior P Cassandra Searls logged five innings, allowing just five hits and striking out eight en route to the victory.
In game two, Fords junior P Lisa Karmel out-dueled Cabrini freshman Marcelle Crist, posting a complete game shutout. Karmel surrendered just two hits and struck out three.
Crist recorded her third complete game in three appearances this season and lowered her ERA to a team-best 0.64 in the loss. She yielded seven hits and struck out two.
Searls led off the bottom half of the sixth inning with a triple to the right centerfield gap. She scored the game-winning run one batter later after junior RF Alison Crawford doubled.
Cabrini (4-4) begins its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season schedule Saturday, March 20 at home against Cedar Crest College. Game one of the doubleheader will start at 10:30 a.m.
