CHESTER, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team broke from its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season schedule today for a doubleheader at Widener University. The Cavaliers split with the twin-bill with the Pride, rallying for a 5-4 win in game two.
Sophomore 1B Angela Shookster went 3-for-3 at the plate in the second contest and drove in four runs, including the game-tying run in the top of the seventh inning. Shookster launched her team-best fifth homerun of the season in the third.
The Cavaliers trailed 4-3 heading into their final at-bat of game two. Sophomore 3B Ryan McDonough sparked the rally with a lead-off double before Shookster's double to centerfield tied the game.
Senior 2B Cheri Johns put the Blue & White ahead for good with an RBI single two batters later.
Senior P Liz Zimmer retired the Pride in order in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Zimmer, named the CSAC Pitcher of the Week earlier Monday, allowed nine hits and four earned runs in her sixth straight complete game effort.
Cabrini led 1-0 after the top of the second inning in game one. However, Widener plated five unanswered runs en route to a 5-1 victory.
Freshman P Marcelle Crist lasted 6.0 innings, surrendering nine hits. Only two of the runs allowed by Crist were earned as the Cavaliers' defense committed two errors.
Senior LF Lauren Brubaker drove in two runs for the Pride in the victory. Freshman P Liz Carpino was credited with the win on the mound, going the distance and allowing six hits.
Cabrini (13-11, 7-1) resumes its CSAC slate on Tuesday, April 13 at Rosemont College. Game time versus the Ravens is scheduled for 3 p.m.
