GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team scored five runs in the last three innings en route to a 7-5 victory against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Gwynedd-Mercy College in game two of a doubleheader. The Griffins took game one, 4-1.
Knotted at 2-2 heading into the top of the fifth inning, the Cavaliers plated four runs on four hits and never looked back in game two. Senior DP Kerri MacNeal put Cabrini ahead for good with a two-run double.
The Blue & White added an insurance tally in the seventh inning on an RBI single from freshman CF Casey O'Connell. MacNeal, O'Connell and sophomore SS Sammy Thompson each drove in two runs in the victory.
Gwynedd-Mercy scored three runs in its final at-bat.
Senior P Liz Zimmer earned the victory, her team-leading eighth of the season. Zimmer lasted 5.0 innings and allowed four hits.
Freshman P Missy Miller pitched 6.0 innings in game one and surrendered three earned runs in the loss. Miller allowed six hits and four strikeouts.
The Griffins held a 3-1 lead through five innings. Sophomore C Chrissy Squillace plated the Cavaliers' lone run with an RBI triple to right-center field, scoring MacNeal from first base.
Despite giving up 11 hits, Gwynedd-Mercy P Heather Morgan earned the win on the mound. Morgan allowed one earned run and fanned four batters.
Cabrini (15-13, 9-3) returns home versus CSAC opponent Philadelphia Biblical University on Tuesday, April 20. Game one is set to start at 3 p.m.
