CSAC Front-Runner Neumann University Sweeps Softball

The Cabrini softball team had its season-high seven game win streak snapped Friday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader at Cabrini Field against Neumann University. The Knights rolled to a 10-0 victory in game one and a 9-0 triumph in the second outing.

Brittany Campbell went the distance for the Knights in game one on the mound, striking out three and allowing just one hit. The Cavaliers' lone base hit of the first game came off the bat of senior DP Kerri MacNeal.

Sophomore P Marcelle Crist was saddled with the loss, pitching 5.0 innings and surrendering six earned runs. Crist allowed 11 hits and walked two.

Neumann jumped on the Cavaliers in game one, scoring five runs in the first inning. The Knights added one run in the second frame and four in the fifth.

The Knights raced out of the gates in similar fashion in game two, plating five runs in their first at-bat. The Blue & White trailed 7-0 after three innings.

Senior P Liz Zimmer's nine game win streak in the circle against CSAC opponents came to an end. Zimmer gave up 12 hits and six earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. 

Cabrini notched three hits off Neuman pitcher Rachel Purpuro. Purpuro logged 5.0 innings of work and fanned four.

Cabrini (21-15, 15-5) closes out its CSAC regular season tomorrow at Marywood University. Game one is set to start at 1 p.m.
