RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team claimed its fifth consecutive victory on Monday night, holding off Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Neumann University, 71-69, at Nerney Field House. Junior guard John Boyd led all scorers, netting 26 points for the Cavaliers in the win.
The victory is Cabrini's 28th straight at home versus a CSAC opponent. Overall, the Cavaliers have won 19 straight games at Nerney Field House, dating back to the start of the 2009-10 regular season.
Boyd shot a torrid 11-for-16 from the field overall and canned 2-of-4 3-point tries. He also recorded five rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Sophomore guard Cory Lemons mixed 20 points, on 8-for-13 shooting, with eight assists and five rebounds. Lemons swiped two steals and drained his lone 3-point attempt.
Senior forward Dom Farrello struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive end, but managed to kick in eight points and is now just 28 points shy of reaching 1,000 points for his Cabrini career. Farrello also contributed nine rebounds.
Freshman forward Fran Rafferty paired six points with seven rebounds. Freshman center Jon Miller notched five points and eight caroms.
Neumann had a shot at the end of regulation to win, but senior guard Marquise Boggs' 30-foot shot as the horn sounded kicked off the side of the iron, preserving the Cavaliers' victory.
The Blue & White led by as much as eight points in the second half, 70-62, following a tip-in from Boyd at the 2:32 mark.
Neumann answered with five quick points – two free throws from Boggs and a 3-point basket from junior guard Terrance Clark. Freshman forward Mark Blount's putback pulled the Knights within two points in the final minute.
Boggs and Clark led the Knights' offense, each scoring 13 points. Boggs recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The victory is the Cavaliers' seventh straight against the Knights. Cabrini last topped Neumann in the 2010 CSAC final, 97-73, en route to the NCAA Tournament.
Cabrini (11-4, 8-1) is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 27 at CSAC foe Keystone College. Game time against the Giants is set for approximately 8 p.m.
