RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's soccer team recorded its second highest scoring game of the season today, defeating Gwynedd-Mercy College 4-0 at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Cavaliers notched five goals in a 5-1 win against Penn State - Brandywine to open the season.
Cabrini wasted little time implementing its offensive game plan. From the opening tap, the Cavaliers controlled the ball, looking to create offensive opportunities from the back line.
In the seventh minute, freshman
George Lambritsios settled the ball on the right corner of GMC's penalty area and played a pass to senior
Eric Collins who volleyed the ball to top corner of the goal. The goal gave the Cavaliers a lead they would take into the halftime break.
In the game's 66th minute, Collins notched his second goal of the match and his sixth of the year. Senior
Jim Mattock split two Gwynedd-Mercy defenders with a pass that found Collins on a dead sprint. Collins sent a shot just inside the far left post for the goal.
Collins returned the favor just seconds later, as Mattock scored his fourth goal of the season to give Cabrini a 3-0 lead. Lambritsios salted the game away in the 81st minute with his first collegiate goal.
Cabrini outshot the Griffins 14-3.
The Cavaliers (7-6-1, 3-2 CSAC) will travel to Clarks Summit, Pa. on Saturday to face Baptist Bible College at 3:00 p.m.
