CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's soccer team needed all of the extra time to win its third consecutive game today, a 3-2 double overtime win at Baptist Bible College. The win leaves the Cavaliers at 4-2 in the CSAC and 8-6-1 overall.
The Cavaliers found themselves in a hole early, as BBC scored the game's first goal in the fifth minute. Cabrini evened the score six minutes later when senior
Jim Mattock converted a penalty kick for the first of his two tallies on the day.
Freshman
Christian Martin gave Cabrini its first lead of the day in the 28th minute when the fullback converted a rebound off a corner kick. The Blue and White would take the 2-1 advantage into the halftime break.
As time wound down in the second half, it appeared as though the Cavaliers would hold on for the win in regulation. But Baptist Bible turned a Cabrini penalty into the game-tying goal with less than five minutes on the clock.
The teams combined for 19:40 of even play in the first and second overtime periods before Cabrini took control.
With seconds left in the game's second overtime, the Cavaliers pressed for the game-winner. Mattock was in the right place at the right time to score his second goal of the match, a shot off a rebound, and give Cabrini the win.
The Cavaliers recorded 22 shots in the game, five by sophomore
Brett Lockbaum.
Cabrini's sophomore goaltender
Eric Nowicki recorded eight saves in the win.
The Blue and White will travel to Lancaster, Pa. on Tuesday to face Franklin & Marshall in nonconference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
