GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team now owns a two-game lead in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) standings following an 84-73 victory at rival Gwynedd-Mercy College on Monday night. The win is the Cavaliers' 11th straight overall and fourth in a row against the Griffins.
Senior forward Dom Farrello led the Cabrini offense, scoring a career-best 25 points and recording seven rebounds. Farrello drained 4-of-9 attempts from beyond the 3-point stripe and swiped four steals.
Sophomore point guard Cory Lemons was the only other Cavalier in double figures, netting 14 points, and mixing in four rebounds and four assists.
Freshman forward Fran Rafferty scored nine points on 3-for-6 shooting from the field and gathered six rebounds. Sophomore guard A.J. Williams contributed eight points on 4-for-8 shooting in 20 minutes played off the bench.
Junior guard John Boyd totaled seven points and notched a team-best eight rebounds. Sophomore center Goran Dulac paired seven points with seven caroms.
Cabrini shot 40.5 percent from the field and owned a four-point advantage at the intermission, 40-36. Farrello scored 12 points in the first half, shooting 5-for-9 overall.
The Griffins kept pace with the Blue & White in the early portion of the second half, pulling even, 47-47, at the 13:49 mark.
However, the Cavaliers put together a 20-5 run over the next six-plus minutes en route to a game-high 15-point cushion, 67-52, with 7:21 remaining. Cabrini spread the wealth during the decisive run as five different players contributed on the offensive end.
The Blue & White held a 74-61 advantage at the 3:09 mark before GMC used a 12-5 run to cut its deficit to only six points, 79-73, with 26 seconds remaining. Yet, that would be the closes the Griffins would climb after a lay-in from senior guard Lamar Fisher with 11 ticks left pushed the Cavaliers lead back to 10 points, 83-73.
Junior guard Dan DelConte led Gwynedd-Mercy (16-5, 11-3 CSAC) with 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting. Senior forward Jon Hogga recorded a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
The win is the Cavaliers' 11th straight, dating back to a 95-82 victory at Centenary College on Jan. 13. Cabrini is now in the driver seat of the CSAC standings, staking claim to a two-game lead with just four games remaining in the regular season.
The Cavaliers' 11-game ride is the longest under third-year head coach Marcus Kahn, eclipsing last year's 10-game win streak. Kahn owns a staggering 42-6 record against CSAC opponents in the regular season. He has totaled a 64-15 career record with the Blue & White.
Cabrini (17-4, 13-1 CSAC) returns to Nerney Field House for a date with CSAC opponent Rosemont College on Feb. 10. Game time against the Ravens is set for approximately 8 p.m.
