RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team eyed a come-from-behind, last at-bat win against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Centenary College on Friday afternoon before freshman P Meagan Madsen used a game-ending strikeout to escape a 7th inning bases-loaded jam to wrap up a 5-3 victory for the Cyclones. Centenary paired a 9-0 triumph in game one for a doubleheader sweep.
Madsen got Cabrini senior C Chrissy Squillace swinging to end game two. The Cavaliers loaded the bases in the 7th with two base hits and a pair of walks.
Cabrini trailed 5-2 entering its last at-bat before junior 3B Ryan McDonough pulled the Blue & White within two runs, 5-3, with an RBI single. Madsen issued a free pass to junior 1B Angela Shookster before getting Squillace on strikes.
Sophomore DP Marcelle Crist drove in two runs for Cabrini in the 4th inning with a triple down the rightfield line.
Junior P Missy Miller went the distance for the Cavaliers in the second game, allowing only two earned runs and striking out one. Madsen pitched 6.0 innings and improved her record to 9-1 in the victory.
Centenary (19-7, 12-2 CSAC) used three home runs in game one, including a three-run shot from sophomore 2B Jennifer Ciecwisz in the 5th inning, to complete a 9-0 victory in five innings.
Senior 3B Sarah Olsen and sophomore C Cara Montferrat hit a pair of solo long balls in the 2nd and 3rd inning, respectively, for the Cyclones.
Shookster tallied two hits for the Cavaliers in game one. Crist was saddled with the loss after surrendering nine hits and seven earned runs.
Madsen also earned the victory in game one, allowing four hits and striking out three.
Cabrini (6-12, 5-5 CSAC) plays its first game away from Cabrini Field since March 2 at CSAC opponent Neumann University on Monday, April 18. Game one against the Knights is set to start at 3 p.m.
