Neumann Takes Two Against Softball

The Cabrini softball team continues its CSAC schedule at the College of Notre Dame on Wednesday.

ASTON, Pa. –
The Cabrini softball team dropped both games of a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) twin-bill against Neumann University on Monday afternoon. Senior OF Pam Mechling and sophomore DP Marcelle Crist each drove in a run in a 9-2 loss setback in game two.

Crist drove in the Cavaliers' first run in the top of the 5th inning in game two with an RBI triple, her second in as many games. Mechling followed suit one batter later with a sacrifice fly that plated Crist.

The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the night-cap and never looked back. Neumann owned a 9-0 advantage after the bottom of the 4th.

Sophomore C Jacki Herrington and sophomore 3B Callie Emel each drove in three runs. Junior P Rachel Purpuro earned the win with a complete game effort, striking out 13 and allowing only two hits.

Sophomore P Missy Miller pitched 6.0 innings but was saddled with the loss in game two. Miller struck out four.

Senior P Brittany Campbell and freshman P Carley Gustin turned out a combined no-hitter in game one as Neumann (19-10, 13-2 CSAC) claimed a 7-0 win.

Emel knocked in three runs and scored one in game two. Sophomore OF Crystal Perlman drove in two runs.

Crist went the distance in the game one loss.

Today's doubleheader was the Cavaliers' first game played away from Cabrini Field since March 2.

Cabrini (6-16, 5-7 CSAC) remains on the road against CSAC opponent the College of Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 20. Game one against the Gators is set for 3:30 p.m.
