Softball Aids Late-Season Push With Sweep Against Keystone College

The Cabrini softball team remains in the CSAC playoff hunt following a two-game sweep of Keystone College on Tuesday.

RADNOR, Pa. –
The Cabrini softball team remains in pursuit of a position in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason following a two-game sweep of Keystone College on Tuesday afternoon at Cabrini Field. The Cavaliers needed only five innings for a 9-1 win in game one before a 9-4 victory in game two.

Junior 1B Angela Shookster went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs in game one. Junior SS Sammy Thompson and junior 2B Stephanie Campanaro each knocked in two runs.

Cabrini jumped out to a 7-0 lead after just one at-bat versus the Giants. The Cavaliers used four hits, including a two-run single from Shookster and a two-run double from Campanaro, to take control of game one.

Shookster ended game one in the bottom of the 5th inning with a two-out single that plated Campanaro. Campanaro scored three runs in game one.

Sophomore P Marcelle Crist earned the win in game one, her fifth victory of the season, surrendering only four hits and striking out two.

Keystone (13-15, 9-11 CSAC) opened the scoring game two, grabbing a 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Loryn Haas provided the Giants with the early lead with a three-run home run.

However, the Blue & White answered with an eight-run barrage on five hits in the bottom half of the 2nd inning. Thompson and senior C Chrissy Squillace each drove in two runs in the decisive frame.

The Cavaliers added one run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single from junior CF Lindsey Atzert.

Sophomore P Missy Miller claimed the win on the mound in game two, pitching 6.0 innings and striking out three.

Following game two against the Giants, fourth-year head coach Lisa McGregor honored the team's three seniors – Squillace, OF Leslie Farrell and OF Pam Mechling. The Cavaliers' senior class has advanced to two CSAC Tournaments, thus far, including an appearance in the 2010 title game.

Cabrini (10-18, 9-9 CSAC) continues the stretch run of its CSAC schedule tomorrow at Philadelphia Biblical University. Game one against the Crimson Eagles is set for 3 p.m.
