ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cabrini college men's basketball team continue to find new ways to win games. On Monday, they shot 73% in the second half to beat Centenary. Tonight, the Cavaliers used defense and a dominant performance in the paint to defeat the Rosemont College Ravens 94-66. The win improves the Cavaliers to 8-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and 13-1 overall.
Cabrini held Rosemont to a season-low 26.4% (19-72) shooting from the floor, including 5-26 from the three-point line. That defense lead to the Cavaliers' 61-38 rebounding advantage. Cabrini's 48 defensive rebounds held the Ravens to just one shot per trip down the floor.
The Cavaliers also posted a whopping 50-12 advantage in points in the paint. Cabrini continued to break down the Rosemont defense, leading to lay-ups and short jumpers for the Blue and White's guards and forwards.
Senior guard
Cory Lemons opened the scoring with a short jump shot and the Cavaliers controlled the rest of the game. Cabrini held Rosemont scoreless for nearly 3:30 but once the Ravens opened the scoring the Cavaliers got hot.
The Blue and White went on a 15-2 run to open a 10-point lead. Lemons banked in a three-pointer with 6:42 remaining in the first half to give Cabrini a 35-16 lead, its largest of the first half.
The Ravens responded late in the half with a 10-0 run of their own, cutting Cabrini's lead to seven points.
After 20 minutes, the Cavaliers maintained a 43-33 lead. Lemons posted 14 points and five rebounds. Junior forward
Goran Dulac grabbed seven boards before the break.
Cabrini opened the second half with a
John Boyd three-pointer as the Cavaliers posted a 12-3 run. Five consecutive points by junior A.J Williams extended Cabrini's lead to 55-36.
With a commanding lead, Cabrini's deep bench got the chance for significant minutes. The reserves continued to push the pace, extending Cabrini's lead from 19 to 32 points in the game's final six minutes led by freshman
Alex Lorenzo's seven points.
Lemons led Cabrini's balanced attack with 20 points and 11 rebounds in just 28 minutes of action. Junior
Jeremy Knowles added 12 points. Eight other Cavaliers posted between four and nine points in the win.
Dulac finished with nine rebounds, while freshman
Aaron Walton-Moss grabbed seven boards.
Harrison Carsillo led Rosemont with 15 point and six rebounds.
The Cavaliers will look for their 39th consecutive home CSAC win on Saturday when they host Marywood University at Nerney Field House. Game time is scheduled for approximately 3:00p.m. at the completion of the women's game.
