RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's soccer team won their second consecutive colonial States Athletic Conference match today with an impressive 4-1 win over the visiting Centenary College Cyclones. The victory improves the Cavaliers to 4-2-1 in the CSAC and 6-7-2 overall.
The Blue and White used solid execution on their set plays to secure the win, with all four goals coming off set plays started by senior
Kyle Johnson. Johnson's four assists on the day represent a career high for both assists and points.
Cabrini opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Johnson's direct kick found junior
Brett Lockbaum streaking to the far post for the header goal.
Things got interesting in the 25th minute when Cabrini's junior goaltender
Eric Nowicki received a red card for a foul in the penalty area. Not only did the Cavaliers surrender the penalty kick, which Centenary senior Patrick Boreland converted, but the Blue and White were forced to play a man down the rest of the game.
Playing short a man did not slow the Cavaliers offense. Freshman
Mike Camacho tallied his first career goal in the 37th minute as he converted Johnson's free kick into a header goal.
The Cavaliers extended their lead in the 42nd minute again off a set piece. Johnson's free kick found fellow senior
Ryan Juhring, who played the ball to sophomore
Sean Neary. Neary's blast found the back of the net for his second tally of the season.
Cabrini took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break after outshooting Centenary 13-4 in the first half.
Lockbaum made his second mark in the score book in the 70th minute. John's free kick service found the forehead of junior
Gabe Kuhn who played the ball to Lockbaum streaking to the goal.
Neary led the Cavaliers with three of the squad's 16 shots. The trio of Lockbaum, freshman
Boomer Steigelman and senior
Anthony Girolamo recorded a pair of shots on goal each.
Freshman
R.J. Pino posted four save to notch his first career victory.
Sophomore Quinn Khouri led Centenary with five shots.
Cabrini will step out of conference play to face Valley Forge Christian College on Tuesday at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
