Men's Soccer Closes Regular Season with 1-1 Tie

Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's soccer team closed its regular season tonight with a 1-1 tie at Marywood University.   The result improves the Cavaliers to 8-7-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

With just a few league matches remaining, the Blue and White appear to be locked into the third or fourth seed for the CSAC postseason tournament.

The Pacers dominated the match's shot charts, firing 22 shots to Cabrini's nine.  Only seven of Marywood's shots, however, were on target.  Only two of the Blue and White's were on goal, but the Cavaliers only needed one.

Marywood opened the scoring in the 39th minute on Zachary Oster's goal.  Cabrini trailed until the 51st minute when the Pacers committed a penalty just outside the penalty area.

Over the last few matches, senior Kyle Johnson has found his teammates' heads on similar set plays.  But on this occasion, Johnson took care of it himself, curling a direct kick into the net for his first goal of the season and second of his career.

As the final 39 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime passed, both teams looked for a goal to give them the win and those three important points in the CSAC standings.  Neither club could really find the scoring combination, as each team recorded just one shot on goal in the game's final 59 minutes of action.

Junior goaltender Eric Nowicki anchored the Cavaliers with six saves on the night.  Fellow junior Brett Lockbaum posted a team-high four shots.

The Cavaliers will wait for the results from this weekend's CSAC action to learn their fate for next week's postseason tournament.
