Men's Soccer Tops Mighty Macs to Reach CSAC Semifinal

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. -  After a one year absence, the Cabrini College men's soccer team will return to the CSAC semifinal round after tonight's 3-1 win over Immaculata University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.  The victory sets up a meeting at top seeded Neumann University tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.

The Cavaliers controlled the pace of play for the majority of match but couldn't find the net until the 25th minute.  Sophomore George Lambritsios played a ball forward to senior Anthony Girolamo who poked the ball under Immaculata goaltender Chris Radabaugh and into the net.  The goal was the senior's fifth of the season and eighth of his career.

Cabrini doubled its advantage in the 38th minute when senior Kyle Johnson's corner kick found the forehead of Gabe Kuhn who redirected the ball into the net for his second goal of the season.

The Blue and White carried the 2-0 lead into the halftime break after holding the Mighty Macs without a shot in the opening 45 minutes of action.  Conversely, the Cavaliers recorded eight, including three on net.

The score remained 2-0 until the 81st minute when freshman Ryan Flanigan found fellow rookie Mike Camacho for the third tally of the night.  Camacho's second goal of the season gave Cabrini a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Kyle Counsellor scored Immaculata's goal in the 88th minute of play.

The Blue and White outshot the Mighty Macs 20-5 on the game, including an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.   Sophomore Sean Neary led the club with four shots, while six other players fired a pair of shots each.

Junior goaltender Eric Nowicki recorded two saves to secure the first round victory.

The Cavaliers will put their six match unbeaten streak on the line as they travel to Aston to face the Knights on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.  The tournament's number one seed, Neumann secured the first round bye after finishing the regular season with a conference mark of 8-0-1, their only blemish coming in a 0-0 tie against Marywood.

The Knights had topped the Cavaliers in their last four meetings, including a 2-0 result in Aston on October 6.  Neumann's Caleb Clanton scored goals in the 68th and 78th minutes to secure the victory.

The Cavaliers do, however, have some postseason success against the Knights.  The Blue and White defeated Neumann 2-0 in the 2008 CSAC championship match, with current Cabrini assistant coach Mike McDevitt leading the way with a goal and assist.
