CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's basketball team withstood a late rally to improve to 5-3 on the season with today's 77-70 win at Baptist Bible College. The victory also moved the Blue and White to 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Senior
Jeremy Knowles led the Cavaliers with 17 points and four steals. Freshman
Arron Goodman recorded 13 points. In just his second action of his career, fellow freshman
John White tallied 12 points, including four three pointers. Senior
A.J. Williams added 10 points in the win.
Looking to jump start the club, Cabrini head coach Marcus Kahn inserted a different starting line-up and it got the Blue and White off to a good start. After the Defenders' initial basket, the Cavaliers led the final 39:38 of the game. A pair of Goodman free throws capped a 9-0 run, giving Cabrini a 22-12 lead midway through the opening half. White's three pointer with 25 seconds left in the half gave the Blue and White a 37-25 lead heading into halftime.
A Knowles three pointer extended Cabrini's lead to a game high 15 points just two minutes into the second half. Though they held a seemingly commanding lead, the Cavaliers could not put the Defenders away as Baptist Bible cut its deficit to 52-47 midway through the half. Cabrini extended its lead back to nine points before the Defenders sliced it back to two at 63-61 with 3:45 to play.
A Williams three pointer followed by an offensive rebound and put back by senior
Goran Dulac immediately extended the lead back to seven. Baptist Bible continued to fight through the game' sfinal minutes but the Blue and White always had the answer, culminating with a Knowles three point play with 10 seconds to play.
Luke Peterson led the Defenders with 21 points, while Abe Valentine and Nate Wiersma added 16 points each in the loss.
The Cavaliers will travel down the Main Line on Monday as they visit Rosemont College. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
