RADNOR, Pa. -
The Cabrini college softball team rebounded from back-to-back shutouts at Haverford last week to salvage a split against the Cedar Crest College Falcons today at Cabrini Field.  The Falcons took the first game 7-2, but winning pitcher junior Missy Miller knocked in the game-winning hit for a 4-3 win in the second game.

Senior shortstop Sammy Thompson led the Cavaliers' (9-9, 4-2 CSAC) offense, going a combined 5-7 on the day with a run scored and RBI.

Junior pitcher Marcelle Crist kept the Falcons bats quiet for the first two innings of game one, but Cedar Crest (9-9, 3-3 CSAC) left the bags full in the third after posting two runs on four hits. The Falcons added three runs in the fourth inning on a three-run home run.

Two Cedar Crest runs on one hit and two fielding errors in the sixth inning put the Blue and White in a 7-0 hole with just six out remaining.  The Cavaliers had mustered solo hits in first, second, third and fifth frames and left seven runners on base through five innings.

Cabrini finally crossed the plate in the sixth inning when freshman Lea Enoch scored on junior Taylor McGarvey's first career triple.  The Cavaliers added a second run in the bottom of the seventh inning when senior Angela Shookster knocked in junior Lindsey Atzert with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

Crist dropped to 4-5 on the season after allowing four earned runs on 10 hits.

The Cavaliers played from the front in game two, as the Blue and White posted two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Thompson opened the frame with a double and later scored on Shookster's single.  Aggressive base running put Shookster in position to score on freshman Rebecca Miles' single to center.

The Falcons got on the score board in the third inning.  The Blue and White added another run in the bottom of the fourth.  McGarvey reached on a walk before stealing second.  Thompson's single scored McGarvey, extending Cabrini's lead to 3-1.

Cedar Crest drew even in the top of the sixth inning, as the Falcons took advantage of two hits, a wild pitch and a Cabrini error to tie the score at 3 with nine outs to play.

Freshman Stephainie Diegel led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk.  Crist's sacrifice bunt put Diegel in scoring position.  Miller stepped to the plate and delivered the hit of the game, a double to left field that sent Diegel across the plate.

With a 4-3 lead, Miller returned to the pitching circle and shut down the Falcons in the top of the seventh, securing her fourth win of the season.

Miller allowed two earned runs on six hits in her eighth complete of the year.  Thompson was a perfect 4-4 in the win.

The Cavaliers will return to the field on Thursday, March 29 when they travel to Swarthmore, Pa. to face the Crimson.  The nonconference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
