SWARTHMORE, Pa. –
The Cabrini College softball team fell to 9-11 on the year after dropping both games of today's nonconference doubleheader at Swarthmore College. The Cavaliers lost the first 10-1 and the second 11-5.

The Blue and White mustered just six base hits on the day, including home runs by freshman Rebecca Miles and Stephanie Diegel.

The Cavaliers fell behind early in the first game as the Garnet posted two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Cabrini cut the lead in half in the top of the second on Miles' second home run of the year.

Swarthmore (10-8)  got the run back in the bottom of the frame, before adding three runs in the third and four in the fourth.

Besides Miles' homer, the Blue and White reached base just five times on three walks and two errors.

In game two, Swarthmore struck first again, plating solo runs in the first and second innings.  The Cavaliers posted a run in the top of the third as senior Sammy Thompson knocked in junior Missy Miller

A Garnet run in the bottom of the fourth pushed the Swarthmore lead to 3-1.   The Cavaliers responded with a big inning in the top of the sixth.

The Blue and White loaded the bases as Thompson, junior Lindsey Atzert, and senior Ryan McDonough reached base with no outs.  After a Swarthmore pitching change, Cabrini's next two batters failed to reach base.

With two outs, Diegel stepped to the plate and cleared the bases with her first career grand slam and her third round tripper of the season.  The grand slam gave the Cavaliers a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

The lead, however, was short lived as Swarthmore erupted for eight runs on seven hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.

McDonough posted two base hits in game two for the Cavaliers.

Cabrini will return to CSAC play on Friday when they travel to Hackettstown, N.J. to face Centenary College.  The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
