Softball Splits a Pair at Keystone

Freshman Lea Enoch finished today's double dip 5-7 with two runs and an RBI as Cabrini split two games at Keystone.

The Cabrini College softball team kept itself in contention for a berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tournament, splitting a doubleheader at Keystone College.  The Cavaliers triumphed in the opener 12-2 before falling 5-4 in the nightcap.

Senior Sammy Thompson led the Blue and White (17-21, 11-9 CSAC) with a combined 6-8 at the dish, with four runs scored.  Freshman Lea Enoch went 5-7 with a pair of runs scored.

The Cavaliers has the bats going early, as they opened game one with six consecutive hits.  Thompson led off with a double to left field, followed by singles by junior Lindsey Atzert and senior Ryan McDonough to load the bases. 

Freshman Rebecca Miles' single to left scored Thompson.  Back-to-back singles to center field by senior Angela Shookster and freshman Stephanie Diegel scored Atzert and McDonough, respectively, for a 3-0 lead.

The Blue and White added a pair of runs in the second.  Thompson opened the frame with a single before scoring on McDonough's groundout.  Cabrini loaded the bases with a two out rally.  Junior Marcelle Crist plated Miles with an infield single.

The Cavaliers really blew the game open in the top of the sixth, as 11 players stepped to the plate.  The Blue and White took advantage of four Keystone errors and three base hits to score seven runs.

Thompson's four hits paced the Cavaliers, while Shookster recorded three hits and knocked in three runs, including a two RBI single in the sixth.

The Cavaliers took an early lead in game two, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.  Atzert and McDonough singled before a Miles double scored Atzert.  McDonough crossed the plate for the 2-0 lead on Shookster's sacrifice fly.

The Giants took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the frame, with four runs on five hits.  Cabrini got one run back in the top of the second inning when McDonough's single to center field scored Thompson.

The score sheet remained clean until the top of the sixth inning.  The Cavaliers tied the score at four when McDonough drew a bases loaded walk.

Keystone scored the game-winner on a Cabrini error with two outs.  The Blue and White stranded runners on second and third to end the game.

Enoch recorded her third three hit game of the year, while McDonough knocked in a pair of runs in the loss. 

The Cavaliers will close their regular season next Saturday as they host Baptist Bible College at Cabrini Field.  First pitch of the CSAC doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
