PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's basketball team was recently awarded the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA) Sam Schoenfeld Award, the organization announced.
The award is given annually to the Philadelphia-area Division II or Division III team that has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout the season.
The award is voted on immediately following the completion of the season by all Philadelphia CBOA officials and awarded at the group's executive board meeting and banquet.
The award is named in honor of Sam Schoenfeld, one of the organization's founding members. After his passing in 1956, the CBOA created the award for the institution that best exemplifies “the highest degree of sportsmanship, character and ethics among their players, coaches and spectators.”
The Sam Schoenfeld Award is the highest honor the CBOA annually gives to any institution.
The Cavaliers finished the most successful season in school history with a record of 31-2 and Cabrini's first ever appearance in the NCAA Championship game.
