Men's Soccer Overpowered by Eastern

Box Score

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's soccer team had its two game win streak snapped today at the feet of the Eastern University Eagles, as the Cavaliers were on the short side of a 7-1 final score.

The loss is the Blue and White's worst since September 4, 2005 when the Cavaliers lost 8-0 at Salisbury University in the Salisbury Classic.

The game remained scoreless until the 23rd minute when Eastern's Ben Hriscu converted a Mitch Osterhouse pass into the first of his three goals on the day.  One minute later, the Eagles extended their league as Hriscue struck again, this time turning a Jair Saenz pass into a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles carried the 2-0 advantage into the halftime break they blew the game open.

Less than four minutes into the second half, Eastern's Eric Giovagnoli found the net.  Goals by Osterhouse and Hunter Roserberg extended the Eagles' lead to 5-0 in the 63rd minute.

The bright spot for the Cavaliers came in the 68th minute when sophomore Eric Goldbloom collected a loose ball in the Eastern penalty area and fired it into the net for his first career goal.

Another pair of Eastern goals in the 74th and 75th minutes set the final score.

Eastern outshot Cabrini by just three shots, but the Eagles converted seven second half shots into five goals.

Freshman Boomer Steigelman and junior Ryan Cerrato led the Blue and White with two shots.

Cabrini will return to the field on Wednesday as they travel to Reading, Pa. to face Alvernia University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
