Cavaliers Weekly Athletic Preview

RADNOR, Pa. – After a successful 4-0-1 display in Saturday's Family Weekend games, Cabrini's fall athletic teams face another tough week of competition. Joining the fall teams in competition is the Cavaliers' men's tennis team.  The men will play five matches over the next two weeks as part of their fall season.

Men's Tennis vs. Penn State Abington, Dixon Courts, 3:30 p.m.
The men's tennis team will begin its fall schedule with a home match against Penn State Abington.  Leading the Cavaliers into action are a trio of players with All-CSAC resumes including 2011 Rookie of the Year Anthony DiCicco, and seniors Ryan Juhring and Ian Monson.  Today also marks the first match for new head coach Larney Baylis.
 
Women's Tennis at Arcadia, Glenside, Pa., 4 p.m.
The Cavaliers will step out of CSAC action today, traveling to Arcadia.  Junior Katie Kennedy leads the Blue and White with a 7-0 singles mark on the year.  Freshman Nicole Broccolino has also been impressive, boasting a 5-2 mark thus far.  The duo also fills Cabrini's #1 doubles flight and sports a 4-5 doubles record.

Women's Soccer vs. Rosemont, Edith Robb Dixon Field, 4 p.m.
The Blue and White will look for its first CSAC victory as it hosts Rosemont College.  The Cavaliers outshot Marywood 20-7 on Saturday as the team battled to a 0-0 tie.  Cabrini owns a 65-57 advantage over its opponents in shots through six contests, but has just three goals to show for the effort.   The Cavaliers topped the Ravens 4-1 last season, Rosemont's first year of the program.

Men's Tennis at Arcadia, Glenside, Pa., 4 p.m.
Cabrini's men's tennis team takes on Arcadia in its second match of the fall season.  The meeting will mark the teams' first meeting since October 13, 2012 when the Cavaliers topped Arcadia 6-3.

Volleyball at Immaculata, Immaculata, Pa., 7 p.m.
The Cavaliers will look to extend their current win streak to six matches as they travel down the road to face Immaculata.  The Blue and White has won the teams' last six meetings, including last season's 3-1 victory.  Senior Danielle Carrozza led the Cavaliers with 16 kills, while junior Michele Fitz added 10.  Junior Alaina Clark recorded 43 assists and junior Sophia Sokolovich posted 26 digs.

Women's Tennis vs. Lebanon Valley, Dixon Courts, 3:30 p.m.
The Cavaliers welcome Lebanon Valley College to campus for Cabrini's second nonconference match this week.  The Blue and White have won three of the last four meetings, including each of the last two.  Last year, junior Katie Kennedy and sophomore Samantha Trumbo posted singles wins in Cabrini's 5-4 victory.

Men's Soccer vs. Keystone, Edith Robb Dixon Field, 4 p.m.
The Cavaliers broke out of their scoring slump with a resounding 3-0 win over Cairn last weekend.  Senior Anthony Girolamo had a career best performance, tallying two goals and five total points, both career highs. Cabrini won three straight CSAC matches against Keystone before dropping last year's meeting 3-2.  Junior Taylor Scarpino and sophomore George Lambritsios scored goals for the Blue and White in last season's game.

Field Hockey vs. Stevens Institute of Technology, Edith Robb Dixon Field, 6:30 p.m.
Cabrini puts its four game win streak on the line in the program's first ever meeting with Stevens.  The Cavaliers have outscored their opponents 19-6 over the last four games.  Most recently, the Blue and White stopped Marywood 2-1 when freshman Kerry Anne Farrell scored 6:32 into overtime.  The Ducks are 5-4 after Sunday's 3-2 loss at #13 Christopher Newport.

Volleyball at Marywood, Scranton, Pa., 7 p.m.
The Cavaliers will face a tough task when they travel to Scranton to face Marywood.  The Pacers enter this week with a 9-6 record after wins over Rosemont and Misericordia at last weekend's Marywood Tri-Match.  Cabrini has captured the teams' last seven meetings, including a 3-0 win in the semifinal round of the 2010 CSAC Tournament.  Last season, the Cavaliers rebounded from a morning loss at Eastern to top Marywood 3-0 behind Carrozza's double-double (12 kills and 12 digs).
 
Women's Soccer at Swarthmore, Swarthmore, Pa., 7 p.m.
The Blue and White will step out of conference to face Swarthmore College at Clothier Field Stadium.  The Cavaliers mustered just three shots in last year's 2-0 loss to the Garnet.  The loss snapped Cabrini's 16 game win streak at Edith Robb Dixon Field.  Swarthmore brings a three game win steak into Thursday night after topping Ursinus 2-1 on Wednesday.

Volleyball vs. Baptist Bible, Nerney Field House, 12 p.m.
The Cavaliers welcome the Defenders to Nerney Field House for their third CSAC match of the week.  Cabrini has topped Baptist Bible in seven consecutive meetings, including three meetings in the CSAC Tournament.  The teams met in last year's CSAC semifinal round, with Cabrini winning 3-0.  The trio of Carrozza, Fitz and senior Meg Ryan led the Blue and White with nine kills each.

Cross Country at Belmont Classic, Belmont Plateau, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pa., 12 p.m.
The Cavaliers will return to Belmont Plateau at Philadelphia's Fairmount Pair for the Belmont Classic.  Cabrini's men finished last year's event in 7th place while the women did not qualify for a team score.  Senior Jeff Young placed 25th with a time of 33:29.9 while sophomore Kris Knight finished the 8K course in 37:42 to finish 46th.  Sophomore Jessica Lanchang led the Cabrini women with a 26:28.6 to finish the 5K run in 26th place.  Junior Victoria Werring posted a 52nd place finish in 31:59.47
 
Women's Soccer at Gwynedd-Mercy, Gwynedd, Pa., 12 p.m.
The Cavaliers will face their first CSAC road match as they visit Gwynedd-Mercy.  The Griffins enter the week 3-5-1 and 1-1-1 in the CSAC after falling to Rosemont 2-0.  Traditionally, the clubs have been very even, splitting the last seven meetings 3-3-1.  Their most recent match came in the first round of last year's CSAC Tournament.  Senior Dana Drake scored the game-winning goal in 9th minute and senior goaltender Maddy Edwards recorded five saves as the Cavaliers advanced 2-0

Men's Tennis at Lebanon Valley, Annville, Pa., 12 p.m.
The Cavaliers will travel to Lebanon Valley for their third match of the fall.  The teams have met in each of the last three years, the last two coming during the fall season.  Cabrini has dropped all three meeting, including 9-0 in 2010 and 2011.

Women's Tennis at Rosemont, Rosemont, Pa., 12 p.m.
Cabrini will look to continue its solid play against Rosemont.  The Blue and White has won six of the team's last seven meeting, including last year's 9-0 triumph.  The Cavaliers won five of the six singles matches, losing just one game among the 10 total sets.
