Men's Basketball Holds on To Slow the Pacers

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. - A big cushion allowed the Cabrini College men's basketball team to hold on to a 68-63 win over Marywood University at Nerney Field House.  The victory improved the Cavaliers to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, keeping them just one behind CSAC leader Gwynedd-Mercy College.

The Blue and White battled through an unfamiliar style, as the Blue and White attempted just 52 field goals, one off their season low.  Senior A.J. Williams led three players in double-figure scoring with 16 points, including 3-6- from beyond three point range.  Fellow senior Jeremy Knowles added 14 points, five rebounds, three
assists and a pair of steals.  Sophomore Aaron Walton-Moss chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Marywood's plan to slow the game paid dividends in the first half as the game remained very tight.  A three pointer by Marywood's Ryan Corrigan gave the Pacers an 11-7 lead nearly seven minutes into play.  The opening stanza featured five lead changes and a pair of ties before Marywood built a 27-22 lead with 2:18 to play in the first half.  The Cavaliers closed the half with a 7-0 run, including five points by Walton-Moss, to take a 29-27 lead into the halftime break.

The Blue and White continued its spurt after the break, building its lead to 39-29 with 16:43 to play.  The Pacers tightened their defensive pressure as they cut Cabrini's lead to 44-39 at the 11 minute mark.  The Cavaliers responded, as senior DeLeon Floyd's offensive rebound and put-back extended Cabrini's lead to 51-40 with 8:33 on the clock.  While the Cavaliers struggled from the free throw line late in the game, their established lead and defense helped to seal the victory.

Junior Fran Rafferty tallied eight second half points and grabbed eight boards, while fellow junior Corey Frizzera posted six point on 2-3 from three point range.

Corrigan led the Pacers with a game-high 22 points, while Matt Tintle and Kendall Harris added 13 points each.  Harris also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

The Blue and White will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Gwynedd-Mercy (8-6, 7-0 CSAC) in a battle for first place in the CSAC.  Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. follow the women's game.
