Men's Basketball Defends Home Floor Against Neumann

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's basketball team improved to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 84-58 win over the visiting Neumann University Knights.  The victory is the Cavaliers' fifth in their last six games.

The Blue and White got balanced scoring from its starting unit tonight, as four starters scored at least 13 points.  Senior Jeremy Knowles led the club with a season-high 18 points on 7-13 shooting and eight rebounds.  Fellow senior A.J. Williams tallied 16 and sophomore Aaron Walton-Moss added 15 points, six rebounds and three steals in his first career start.

The Cavaliers struggled early as the Knights built an early five point lead just two minutes into play.  Neumann continued to hold a slim lead for the first 11 minutes of the game.  At the 8:51 mark, trailing 23-17, the Blue and White took control of the game.  Over the next four minutes, Cabrini embarked on a 14-0 run, forcing five turnovers.   A Knowles three pointer put Cabrini up 13, a lead it would carry into halftime.

While both teams shot fairly well in the first half, it was Cabrini's defense that proved to be the difference.  The Cavaliers forced 13 first half turnovers and turned them into 21 points.  The Blue and White also dominated the painted area, outscoring Neumann 22-10 in the lane.

Cabrini continued using its defensive effort to key its offense.  The Cavaliers extended their lead to 20 points just 3:38 into the second stanza.  The Knights cut Cabrini's lead back to 57-40 at the 14:23 mark, but a 19-2 run over the next 4:18 put the game out of reach. During the run, Neumann shot 0-3 and committed four turnovers while the Blue and White knocked down 5-6 from three point range, including 3-3 by freshman John White.

The Cavaliers held Neumann to 38% shooting from the field, including 6-16 from three point range.  The Blue and White also converted 22 Knights' turnovers into 38 points.

Junior Fran Rafferty added 13 points for the Blue and White, connecting on 3-5 from beyond the arc.  White finished with nine points.  Senior Goran Dulac matched Knowles with a game-high eight boards.

Junior Reggie Coleman led the Knights (4-8, 3-2 CSAC) with 17 points and six rebounds.  Sophomores Benny Birch and Rafiq Williams matched freshman TaVaune Griffin added nine points each.

The Blue and White will return to action on Saturday when they welcome Marywood University (3-10, 2-4 CSAC) to Nerney Field House.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. following the 1:00 p.m. Cabrini women's basketball game between the Cavaliers and Rosemont College.
