SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team improved to 7-0 on the season, including 2-0 in the CSAC, with tonight's 90-71 victory at Marywood University. The No. 6 Cavaliers displayed a balanced offensive attack with five players scoring at least nine points in the win.
Senior
Fran Rafferty led the way, matching a career high with 28 points, including 20 before the halftime break. The senior connected on 6-10 from three point range, also a career high. Junior
Aaron Walton-Moss recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Raffery opened the action with a three pointer and three minutes later, the Blue and White had built a 12-3 lead. While Cabrini never surrendered its lead, the Pacers cut their deficit back to 29-28 with 7:39 left in the first half. Frizzera and Rafferty connected on three pointers on the Cavaliers' next two possessions to extend the lead back to seven points. After 20 minutes, Cabrini held a 50-40 advantage.
The Cavaliers opened the second half with a 10-2 run, culminating with a three pointer by freshman
Brennan McCann, putting Cabrini up 60-42. The Blue and White never let its lead drop below 11 points in the second stanza, as it connected on 46.2% from the field and 5-13 from three point range.
McCann finished with a career high 11 points, while senior
Corey Frizzera match his career best with 10 points.
The Cavaliers controlled the paint, outscoring Marywood 32-22 in the lane and winning the rebounding battle 35-21. Rafferty, McCann, Frizzera and fellow senior
Jon Miller added four rebounds each in the win.
Matthew Clark, Shane Kellaher and Kendall Harris tallied 13 points each for Marywood (3-3, 1-1 CSAC).
Cabrini will return to action on Saturday as they welcome Baptist Bible College to Nerney Field House. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
