Men's Basketball Scores 99-76 Win at Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's basketball team won its sixth consecutive game and improved to 17-5 on the season with tonight's 99-76 win at Cairn University.  With three games to play, the Cavaliers stand at 13-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, 1.5 games ahead of Wednesday's opponent, Gwynedd-Mercy College, for first place in the conference.

The Blue and White debuted a new starting line-up tonight, with the result being continued offensive balance.  Six Cavaliers scored at least eight points each, led by senior Jeremy Knowles' 17 points, including 5-5 from three point range, eight rebounds and four assists.  Freshman John White added 14 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes.  

Cairn scored the first bucket of the game, before buckets by seniors DeLeon Floyd and A.J. Williams gave the Blue and White a lead it would not relinquish.  The Cavaliers built their lead to 22-9 before the Highlanders fought back, using a 19-8 spurt to cut their deficit to 30-28.  Three pointers by junior Fran Rafferty and Knowles bookended a 15-2 run, handing the Cavaliers a  45-30 lead with just under three minutes left in the half.  

After 20 minutes, the Blue and White held a 55-38 lead after connecting on nearly 58% shooting, including 9-15 from three point range.  Cabrini dominated the glass, outrebounding the Highlanders 22-7 in the first half, leading to seven more shot attempts and a 13-2 advantage in second chance point.

Cairn cut Cabrini's lead to 12 early in the second half, but the Cavaliers responded with a 24-8 run, building a 79-51 lead with 11:43 to play.  White led the charge with 12 points during the six plus minute spurt.  The Blue and White continued its hot shooting after the break, knocking down 52.6% from the field, led by White's 6-11 and 14 second half points.

Rafferty finished the contest with 13 points and five rebounds, while Williams added 11 points.  Freshman Brad Fagan matched a career high with nine points and senior John Glenn recorded eight points in his first career start.

Reuben Lacy led the Highlanders (1-20, 0-15 CSAC) with 21 points on 8-11 shooting, and 10 rebounds.  Aaron Stovall hit 45 from three point range for 15 points, while Chase Brunner added 10 points in the losing effort.

The Blue and White will return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Gwynedd-Mercy (12-9, 11-3 CSAC) to Nerney Field House.  Game time is scheduled for approximately 8:00 p.m. as the second half of a conference doubleheader.  The Cavaliers and Griffins women's game will open the action at 6:00 p.m.

After trailing 42-32 at the half, the Cavalier hit 65% from the floor and recorded just three turnovers en route to a 93-80 road win.  Four Cavaliers scored double figure points, led by Knowles' 23, while sophomore Aaron Walton-Moss posted a double-double with 21 points and 14 boards.
