Softball Stumbles at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team fell to 9-14 on the season after today's 7-3 and 11-2 nonconference losses at Delaware Valley College.  Junior Bethany Feinberg led the Cavaliers with a combined four hits on the day.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead, plating two runs in the top of the second inning.  Feinberg's single scored sophomore Becca Miles, who opened the frame with a double to left.  The Blue and White added an unearned run later in the inning when freshman Molly McDougall's single sent freshman Katie Hall across the plate.

The Rams immediately retook the lead with three runs in the home half of the second.   The Blue and White leveled the score in the third as Feinberg's single to right scored sophomore Steph Diegel.

Delaware Valley regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning, plating two runs on five hits.  The Cavaliers struggled to regain its offensive flow, as they mustered just two hits over the final four innings, while the Rams tallied singles runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Miles led the Cavaliers with three base hits in the opener, while Feinberg and McDougall added two hits each.  Senior Marcelle Crist fell to 4-7 on the year, allowing seven earned runs on 16 hits.

Delaware Valley took control of the night cap in the first inning, as it plated four runs on five hits.  The Blue and White began chipping away at the lead in the third, as McDougall's double to right center field scored Diegel. 

After a scoreless bottom of the second, the Cavaliers plated a second run in the third, taking advantage of two Rams errors.  Senor Taylor McGarvey led off the frame with a single and eventually scored as Miles reached first on a swinging strikeout.

The Cavaliers again struggled late in the game, posting just one hit after the third inning.  Meanwhile, Delaware Valley added a run in the third, two in the fifth and ended the game with four runs in the sixth.

Cabrini recorded just five base knocks in the nightcap, including two by Feinberg.  Senior Missy Miller suffered the loss after surrendering 15 hits and 10 earned runs.

The Cavaliers will return to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Friday, as they visit Neumann University.  First pitch for the conference doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Aston, Pa.
