Softball Snaps Skid with 6-2 Win at Notre Dame

Box Score 1

BEL AIR, Md. – The Cabrini softball team snapped its four game losing streak today, as it topped Notre Dame (Md.) 6-2 at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md.  The game was originally scheduled as the second half of a CSAC doubleheader on March 16 and postponed twice.  The Blue and White improved to 9-5 in the conference and 10-14 overall.

The Cavaliers got a balanced offensive effort today, as eight players recorded at least one base hit, including two each from senior Marcelle Crist and sophomore Steph Diegel.  Crist also secured the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing just one earned run and scattering 10 hits over seven innings.

Cabrini opened the scoring in the third inning, when Diegel's two out double scored freshman Katie Hall who reached on a walk to open the frame.  The Gators took advantage of a Blue and White error in the bottom of the third inning to even the score at one.

The Blue and White regained the lead for good in the top of the third.  Senior Missy Miller was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on sophomore Jessica Irvin's free pass.  Miller reached third on a passed ball before scoring on a single by Hall.  After stealing second, Hall crossed the dish on a single by freshman Kaitlyn Cooper.

The Cavaliers continued to take advantage of its chances in the fifth inning, plating two more runs.  Irvin's two out single scored Crist.  The Blue and White added a second run as junior Bethany Feinberg scored on an unearned run.

Cabrini added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as a single by freshman Stacie Roller plated Irvin.

The Cavaliers will step out of conference play on Tuesday, as they welcome the Widener University Pride to Cabrini Field.  The nonconference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
