Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DOVER, Del. – The Cabrini softball team stepped out of conference play today dropped a pair of games at Wesley College in Dover, Del.  The 10-9 and 12-4 losses leave the Blue and Whites overall record to 9-12.

Freshman Katie Hall led the Cavaliers with three hits in the opener, while five players posted two base hits each.  Hall and fellow rookie Molly McDougall recorded two RBI each, while sophomore Becca Miles crossed the plate three times. Junior Bethany Feinberg suffered her first career loss, after allowing nine earned runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings.  Senior Missy Miller allowed one run on four hits in 4.1 innings of relief.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead, plating three runs in the bottom of the first.  The Cavaliers rallied in the top of the second, taking advantage of a couple of Wesley miscues.  Sophomore Steph Diegel reached on an error to start the frame and advanced to second when Miles was hit by a pitch.  Hall's infield singles scored Diegel.  Hall matriculated around the bases, eventually scoring on a wild pitch.

Wesley responded with a six spot in the bottom of the second, putting Cabrini in a 9-2 hole.  It didn't take long for the Blue and White to answer as the Cavaliers' bats were ready for the top of the third.  McDougall opened the inning with an infield single, before scoring on senior Taylor McGarvey's second career triple.  The senior reached the plate on Diegel's single to left field.  Miles knocked in freshman Kaitlyn Cooper before senior Marcelle Crist's single to right plated Diegel. Three batters later, McDougall's two RBI single scored Crist and Miles.

Leading 9-8, Wesley added what turned out to be an insurance run in the top of the fourth.  The Cavaliers looked for another rally in the top of the seventh inning.  Miles opened the frame with a double and scored on Hall's single to centerfield.  Miller reached on a fielder's choice before being caught stealing to end the game.

The Cavaliers mustered just five hits in the night cap, including two each by McGarvey and Diegel.  While the offense struggled, Cabrini did itself no favors, committing four errors.  Crist allowed six earned runs on 13 hits in just four innings, falling to 4-6 on the season.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of seven hits and three Cabrini errors to build a 7-0 lead through two innings.  The Blue and White got its offense going in the top of the fourth.  Crist was hit by a pitch to open the inning, before Feinberg drew a walk.  Both advanced a bag on a wild pitch.  Freshman Stacie Roller scored Crist with a single to left.  Sophomore Jessica Irvin loaded the bases with a walk before McGarvey's single cleared the bases.

Wesley put the game away with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The Cavaliers needed to score at least one in the top of the fifth to keep the game going, but the Blue and White couldn't find the offense.

Cabrini will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Doylestown, Pa. to face Delaware Valley College. The nonconference doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
