SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team got just enough offense and lots of defense today, as the Cavaliers notched a 1-1 tie at No. 10 University of Scranton. The Blue and White now stand at 0-0-2 after the two-day Monarchs/Royals Invitational.
Senior Gabe Kuhn tallied the Cavaliers lone goal in the 11th minute, as he was on the business end of a corner kick by fellow senior C.J. Doherty. Cabrini carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime despite beign outshot 11-5 in the opening 45 minutes.
Scranton turned up the pressure after the break, tying the score in the 54th minute on a direct kick.
The Royals continued to attack but the Cavaliers remained strong in their defensive end. In the second half and the two overtime periods, Scranton outshot Cabrini 20-4 and attempted nine corner kicks to the Blue and White's one. Cabrini was up to the task, keeping a clean sheet for the last 54 minutes of play.
Sophomore goaltender R.J. Pino anchored Cabrini's defense with six saves on the day. Freshmen Bobby Kane and Logan Howell led the club with two shots each.
The Cavaliers will face another tough test on Wednesday when they cross the Delaware River to face No. 14 Rutgers University-Camden. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.
