Late Goal Downs Men's Soccer

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – For the second consecutive game, the Cabrini men's soccer team took a defeat on a goal in the final minutes of play.  The Blue and White fell to 0-4-2 after tonight's 2-1 loss to DeSales University at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

The clubs remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play, neither team having many real scoring chances.  DeSales opened the score book in the 51st minute on an unassisted goal by freshman Wes Frebel.

Over the next 30 minutes, the Cavaliers fired 11 shots but couldn't find the back of the net.  The 12th finally paid off in the 81st minute.  Senior C.J. Doherty fired a shot and the rebound found freshman Kyle Chevalier alone in the middle of the penalty area, where the rookie recorded his first career goal.

With the momentum on Cabrini's side, the Bulldogs wasted little time composing a counter attack. Less than two minutes later, DeSales senior Brett Morris found himself on the finishing end of an 83rd minute corner kick, returning the lead to DeSales.

The Cavaliers dominated the stat sheet, outshooting DeSales 16-7, including a 14-6 advantage after the half.  Cabrini also secured 11 corner kicks to the Bulldogs' two.  Freshman Mo Konneh led the Cavaliers with four shots on the night, while five players added two each.

Senior goaltender Eric Nowicki recorded one save in the loss.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday night as they welcome the Eastern University Eagles (3-1) to Edith Robb Dixon Field.  Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
