RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's soccer team dropped its third consecutive game, this time in heartbreaking fashion, falling 2-1 to Alvernia University in the final game of the Eagle Road Classic. The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 0-3-2 on the season.
The Blue and White tallied the first goal of the match in the 11th minute, as senior
Brett Lockbaum found sophomore
Boomer Steigelman, who recorded his first goal of the season. The lead was short-lived as the Crusaders leveled the score just three minutes later.
The score remained tied at 1-1 for the majority of the match, as both clubs narrowly missed scoring opportunities in the midst of the up and down action. Alvernia recorded just two shots in the second half, but made its final shot count.
Just as it looked like the Blue and White head to overtime for the third time this season, an Alvernia pass deflected off a Cabrini defender to Alvernia's R.J. Fisher who converted the shot with just 70 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Cavaliers forced a late corner kick, but could not develop a solid scoring chance in the game's final minute.
The Crusaders fired eight shots to Cabrini's five on the day, while the Blue and White secured three corner kicks to Alvernia's two.
Fischer tallied both of Alvernia's (3-1) goals on the day.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday, when they host the DeSales University Bulldogs (0-2). The game is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
