RADNOR, Pa. – After a 21 day break from game action, the Cabrini men's basketball team wasted little time shaking off its rust. The No. 4 Cavaliers improved to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 91-51 home victory over Cairn University.
The Blue and White took control of the game in the early minutes, as it shot nearly 64% from the floor in the first half, including 10-16 from three point range. All 14 players who saw action notched at least two points and 13 grabbed at least one rebound.
Freshman
Matt Forrest and junior
Vinny Walls led the way with 12 points each. Forrest hit 4-5 from deep, while Walls connected on 5-9 from the floor. Freshman
Brennan McCann added 11 points to go with a career high six assists.
Junior
Aaron Walton-Moss stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight boards, six assists and a blocked shot. Senior
Jon Miller chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds. Senior
Fran Rafferty added eight points and five rebounds.
The Blue and White committed a season low seven turnovers, while notching a season high 20 assists. Cabrini's 91 points marked the seventh time the team has surpassed the 90 point plateau. The Cavaliers also hit a season-high 13 three pointers in the win.
Cabrini dominated the painted area, outscoring the Highlanders 40-26 in the lane. The Cavaliers also owned the glass to the tune of a 48-30 rebounding advantage. Freshman
Deryl Bagwell joined Miller and Rafferty with five rebounds, while McCann and sophomore
Brad Fagan grabbed four each.
Sophomore Kyle Bonner led Cairn (0-11, 0-5 CSAC) with 11 points, while freshman JD Zamroz paired 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.
The Cavaliers will return to the court on Saturday when they host Centenary College (2-9, 1-3 CSAC) in the second half of Cabrini's annual Alumni Day. The day's action will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the women's alumni game. The Blue and White will take the court at 2:00 p.m. follow by the Cabrini men's game against the Cyclones. The men's alumni game will start at 6:00 p.m.
