ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey team continued its winning ways today, as the Cavaliers scored a 7-1 victory at Cedar Crest College. The victory, the Blue and White's eighth in a row, improved the club to 9-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The goals came in bunches today, as the clubs combined to score four goals in the first 6:43 of the game.
Senior
Karlie Gruccio put the Cavaliers on the board first, as junior
Kerry Anne Farrell found her just 3:45 into the action.
The lead was short lived, as the Falcons found the net at the 5:29 mark.
Thirty-five seconds later, Cabrini regained the lead for good, as Gruccio set Farrell up for a goal.
Sophomore
Taylor Mack doubled the lead at the 6:43 mark on Farrell's second of three assists on the day.
After the early scoring barrage, the teams went scoreless for the next 36 minutes before Cabrini netted three goals in just over four minutes.
Mack scored her second of the day and eighth of the season, as Farrell found her in the 43rd minute.
Gruccio's 11th tally of the season came in the 45th minute, as freshman
Jackie Neary notched her sixth helper of the year.
Farrell recorded her 50th point of the season in the 48th minute, as she converted a pass from fellow junior
Jen Webb into her 21st tally of the campaign.
Freshman
Alex Swallow closed the scoring in the 59th minute when the rookie finished a pass from senior
Tori Canelli.
The Cavaliers fired a season high 39 shots on the day, including 26 on goal, and attempted 18 penalty corners. Farrell led the way with a career high 12 shots, while Mack and Gruccio recorded seven each.
Freshman goaltender
Taylor Bookman recorded two saves to earn the victory.
Cedar Crest netminder Selena Contreras took the loss for the Falcons (0-13, 0-5 CSAC) despite recording 16 saves.
The Blue and White will host its annual Play for the Cure game on Tuesday, when it welcomes Neumann University (10-6, 4-0 CSAC) to Edith Robb Dixon Field. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
