RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini field hockey extended its win streak to nine games today, as it scored a 4-1 win over Neumann University at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The victory improved the Cavaliers to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
With just two league games remaining, the Blue and White remain tied atop the CSAC standings with Gwynedd Mercy (11-3, 4-0 CSAC). The Griffins will visit Edith Robb Dixon Field next Wednesday.
Today's action also marked Cabrini's annual Play 4 the Cure breast cancer awareness game. Prior to the game, the Cavaliers spoke with 12 year breast cancer survivor Colleen Carmichael, who played field hockey and lacrosse with Cabrini head coach
Jackie Neary. The ladies also wore pink warm-up t-shirts and pink socks for today's game.
Junior
Kerry Anne Farrell extended her personal goal scoring streak to seven games, recording five points on two goals and an assist. Fellow junior
Jen Webb added a goal and an assist, while sophomore
Taylor Mack also found the net.
Farrell recorded 11 of the Cavaliers' 25 shots on the day, including nine attempts on net. Mack added four shots, one more than Gruccio.
Freshman goaltender
Taylor Bookman recorded a pair of saves to earn the win.
Webb put the Blue and White on the board in the 16th minute, as she secured a rebound from a Farrell shot and put it in the net for her ninth goal of the season.
Gruccio's penalty corner service found Mack in the 19th minute to extend the Blue and White lead.
Neumann cracked the Cavaliers' defense in the 44th minute when Becky Guinto found Marisa Antuzzi.
Cabrini regained its two goal lead in the 51st minute when Webb's penalty corner service found Farrell's stick. Less than three minutes later, the junior returned to the scoring column as senior
Danielle Palatano found her for her 23th goal of the season.
Goaltender Summer Sklivas recorded 10 saves for the Knights (10-7, 4-1 CSAC).
The Blue and White will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Immaculata University (6-10, 2-2 CSAC). Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
