RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team extended its win streak to 15 matches with today's come from behind 3-1 win over Neumann University at Nerney Field House. The victory improved the Cavaliers to 21-5 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The victory gives the Blue and White sole possession of first place in the league, and with just one conference match remaining on the schedule, gives Cabrini the inside track for home court advantage in the 2014 CSAC Tournament and a bye into the semifinal round.
From the opening serve, the atmosphere was that of a championship game, with both sides cheering at every point.
Neumann took advantage in the opening set, as it jumped out to a 10-2 lead. The Cavaliers never really got into the flow of the match, as the Knights scored a 25-16 opening set win, marking the first set Cabrini has lost on its home floor this season.
The Cavaliers scored the first three points of the second set before Neumann roared back to build an early lead. The Knights' lead grew to 17-12 before Cabrini began its comeback. The Blue and White chipped away at its deficit, eventually tying the score at 20.
The clubs exchanged points, but trailing 24-23, freshman
Chelsea Jones came through with a pair of kills to put Cabrini up 25-24 before a Neumann attack error gave the Cavaliers a second set win 26-24.
Like the first two sets, the Knights built an early lead in the third set. A Neumann service ace put the Cavaliers in a 14-9 hole but another Jones kill returned the serve to Cabrini, sending the Cavaliers on an 8-1 spurt for a 17-15 lead. Neumann tied the score at 17, 19, 20, 21 and 22 but the Cavaliers never surrendered the lead before scoring the final three points of the set for a 25-22 win.
The Blue and White carried its momentum into the fourth set, as it opened the frame with four consecutive points and never looked back. Neumann got as close as 6-4 but a 6-1 Cabrini run broke open the set, as the Cavaliers closed the match 25-22 in the fourth set.
