BALTIMORE, Md. – The Cabrini field hockey team continued its winning ways with a dominant 7-1 win at Notre Dame of Maryland University this afternoon. The victory extended the team's win streak to six games and improved it to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
The Blue and White took a few minutes to find its offensive mojo, but when it did the goals came fast.
Junior
Kerry Anne Farrell and senior
Tori Canelli linked up in the 22nd and 27th minutes, as Farrell recorded two of her three goals on the day to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead. Following a Notre Dame (Md.) goal, sophomore
Kylie McDevitt notched her second goal of the campaign.
Cabrini outshot the Gators 20-2 in the opening 35 minutes and carried a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.
Senior
Karlie Gruccio scored the first of her two goals just five minutes into the second half.
Farrell completed her third hat trick of the season in the 52nd minute when she converted a pass from freshman
Jackie Neary. Gruccio's sixth goal of the season came just over 90 seconds later off a penalty corner from junior
Jen Webb.
Junior
Meghan Loughman closed the scoring with her first goal of the year, off a pass from freshman
Sara DeVita.
For the game, Cabrini outshot Notre Dame (Md.) 31-4 and earned 28 penalty corners to four for the Gators. Sophomore
Taylor Mack led the Cavaliers with seven shots, one more than Farrell and Gruccio.
Goaltender Arianna Hudson tallied 11 saves for Notre Dame (Md.) (2-6, 0-3 CSAC).
Cabrini will return to action next Tuesday, as it steps out of conference play to host Delaware Valley College (5-8, 0-2 Freedom). Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
