RADNOR, Pa. – From the opening serve, the Cabrini volleyball team was ready for post season play, as the Cavaliers topped Immaculata 3-0 in tonight's Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal match.
With the victory, the Blue and White improves to 25-6 and advances to Saturday's championship match, its seventh consecutive appearance in the conference final. As the tournament's top seed, the Cavaliers will host the winner from tonight's second semifinal between number two seed Neumann (21-11, 10-1 CSAC) and third seed Marywood (14-9, 9-2 CSAC).
Freshman
Anne-Marie Jones led a balanced Blue and White attack that included five players with at least six kills. The rookie posted a match high 12 kills, while senior
Amy Guarino added nine kills, 11 digs and three service aces.
Juniors
Jen Grenauer and
Christine Ingargiola added seven kills each, one more than freshman
Chelsea Jones.
Junior setter
Cassidy Koenig paired 31 assists and six digs, while sophomore
Kelly Guarino posted a match high 12 digs to go with her six assists. Fellow sophomore
Nicole Sokolovich tallied seven digs and a pair of service aces.
The Mighty Macs built an early lead in the opening set, but the Cavaliers stormed back, taking their first lead at 9-8. A kill by
Amy Guarino gave the Blue and White a 14-13 lead, one that it would not relinquish.
Immaculata kept the score but a 5-0 spurt late in the frame broke a 19-19 tie, as the Cavaliers rolled to the 25-20 opening set victory.
The second set opened much like the first, as the Mighty Macs opened a slim lead early in the set. Trailing 6-5, the Blue and White took control of the set. Cabrini won 11 of the nest 12 points to build a 16-7 lead, en route to a 25-14 win in the second set.
The Cavaliers removed any hope of an Immaculata comeback early in the third frame, as
Amy Guarino served the Blue and White to nine consecutive points early in the set. Cabrini never let up on the pressure, as it clinched the victory with a 25-9 win in the final set.
