Kahn Wins 150th at Cabrini in Regular Season Finale

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team closed its regular season tonight with a 77-66 victory over the visiting Immaculata Mighty Macs at Nerney Field House.  With the win, the No. 6 Cavaliers improve to 23-1 overall and 17-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The victory also marks head coach Marcus Kahn's 150th win at Cabrini.  Kahn reaches the milestone in just 176 games with the Blue and White.  The five time CSAC Coach of the Year has led the Cavaliers to at least 22 wins in each of his six years, including four CSAC championships.  Under Kahn's direction, Cabrini has advanced to four NCAA Tournaments, three NCAA Sweet 16's, two NCAA Elite Eight's and the 2012 National Championship game.

The Cavaliers scored in double figures on the night, led by junior Vinny Walls with 25 points.  Freshman Brennan McCann had a career night, knocking down 4-4 from three point range for a career high 18 points.  Senior Fran Rafferty added 11 points, including a pair of triples.

Cabrini jumped out to an early lead as Rafferty, Walls and McCann hit three pointers in the game's opening minutes. The Blue and White advantage hovered between 8-13 points for much of the first half, extending to 34-19 on Walls' three pointer with 4:17 left in the opening half.

After 20 minutes, the Cavaliers led 37-26 on the strength of 14-30 shooting from the floor, including 8-15 from beyond the three point arc.  Cabrini held Immaculata to just 2-12 three point shooting and 31.3% overall before the break.

The Mighty Macs changed their offensive focus from the three point line to the paint, where it scored 20 second half points and put the Cavaliers in foul trouble.  Cabrini responded with a consistent offensive flow, shooting just under 45% in the second half and 15-20 from the free throw line.  Immaculata cut its deficit to six points several times in the second half, but the Blue and White always had an answer.

Senior Jon Miller paired nine points and seven rebounds, while freshman Brent Mahoney matched Miller's seven boards.  Walls and Rafferty secured five caroms each.

Junior Barry Brockington led Immaculata (11-14, 9-9 CSAC) with 28 points, while senior Brandon Smith added 12 points.  Junior Mamadou Diakite recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Prior to tonight's action, Kahn and Cabrini Director of Athletics and Recreation Brad Koch presented junior Aaron Walton-Moss a commemorative basketball recognizing his 1,000th career point.  The junior became the 18th member of the program's 1,000 point club on win at Centenary on Feb. 12.

As the top seed in the upcoming CSAC tournament, the Cavaliers have secured a bye into Tuesday's semifinal round.  Cabrini will host a team to be determined on 7:00 p.m. at Nerney Field House.

The Blue and White will host the lowest remaining seed from Saturday's quarterfinal games.  Keystone will visit Neumann, while Immaculata hosts Rosemont.  Stay tuned to CabriniAthletics.com for the latest CSAC tournament information.
