Walkoff Win Scores Split for Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RADNOR, Pa. – Fans got a full day of softball today at Cabrini Field as the Cavaliers split a doubleheader with Immaculata University.  Cabrini surrendered a 5-0 lead before dropping the opener 9-6 and scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the second game 12-11.

The teams also joined forced to raise money in the fight against Cancer, wearing shirts in support of their causes.  In memory of Cabrini head coach Mitchell Kline's late wife Sandee, the Cavaliers raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, while the Mighty Macs cause was breast cancer.

The Blue and White took advantage of solid hitting in the bottom of the second inning.  Freshman Taylor Gallagher's infield ground out scored junior Steph Diegel.  Freshman Natalie Giannascoli's double to right center plated Diegel and fellow junior Becca miles.  The lead swelled to 4-0 when freshman Amber Dietrich's single to left scored Giannascoli.

The Cavaliers added a run in the bottom of the third inning on sophomore Lea Enoch's RBI ground out.

The Blue and White appeared to be cruising until the third inning, when a pair of Cabrini errors led to seven runs, including six unearned, highlighted by Liz Biddle's three run homer to right center.  The Mighty Macs added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.

The Cavaliers tried to rally as Dietrich hit her first career home run, a solo effort in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Dietrich and Miles led Cabrini with two hits each in the opener, while Dietrich knocked in two runs and Diegel scored twice.

Immaculata's hot hitting continued into the night cap, as the Mighty Macs racked up seven base hits and a 7-0 lead in the middle of the third inning.  The Cabrini comeback began in the bottom of the frame as Enoch's double scored freshman Brianna Milillo and Giannascoli.  Two batters later, sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper knocked in Enoch with an infield single.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Gallagher escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of fourth before the Cavaliers inched closer in the bottom of the fourth.  Enoch's infield single sent freshman Lindsay Savar across the plate.  Enoch struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning, as her two run homer cut the deficit to 7-6.

Down to its last out, Cabrini evened the score at 7-7 on Milillo's single to right, scoring Miles.  For the second consecutive day, the Cavaliers were headed to extra innings.

The game didn't stay tied for long as Immaculata's Meghan Kugler put the Mighty Macs ahead with a grand slam.  Cabrini didn't seem fazed as it came to bat in the bottom of the eighth.
Dietrich led off with and single and advanced to third on Cooper's double.  A Diegel single plated Dietrich and Cooper.

Miles drew a walk before Gallagher's single loaded the bases.  Savar's single scored Diegle.  Giannascoli drew the second walk of the frame, scoring Miles.  Milillo ended the game with a single down the right field line, scoring Gallagher to complete the comeback.

Enoch, Cooper, Giannascoli and Milillo recorded three hits each in the win, while Enoch posted three RBI and scored twice.

The Cavaliers will step out of conference on Tuesday, as they host Wesley College (9-5) for a doubleheader.  First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Cabrini Field.
