Pitching Dominates Sweep of Delaware Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball scored a pair of victories over the visiting Delaware Valley College Aggies at Cabrini Field.  The Blue and White's 4-0 and 9-1 nonconference victories improved the Cavaliers to 12-11 on the season.

Freshman Kiley Sharp recorded her second complete game shutout of the season in the opener, scattering five hits over seven innings and striking out five Aggies.  The rookie never allowed more than one hit in an inning and only once did an Aggie reach third base.

The Cavaliers opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, when freshman Taylor Gallagher's double to centerfield scored junior Becca Miles.  The Blue and White extended its lead in the third inning as it posted three runs on four hits.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Cooper reached on a single to right center before stealing second.  Junior Steph Diegel advanced her to third with an infield single.  Miles plated Cooper with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.  Gallagher hit her second double of the game, scoring Diegel.  Gallagher advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a triple to right centerfield by sophomore Lea Enoch.

Gallagher finished the opening game 2-2 with two RBI and a run scored, while Cooper recorded a pair of base knocks.

Delaware Valley opened the second game with a run in the top of the first inning.  The Aggies took advantage of two singles and two walks before Gallagher shut the door.  The rookie surrendered just three more hits through the final four innings.

The Blue and White took control of the game in the bottom of the second inning.  Cabrini loaded the bases with one out before freshman Natalie Giannascoli singled through the left side to score Diegel.    Freshman Amber Dietrich's walk plated Miles before a single by freshman Lindsay Savar sent Giannascoli and Gallagher across the plate.

The Cavaliers added a run in the third as Miles hit her third home run of the season.  Cabrini's offense was back on display in the fourth, as the club again loaded the bases with one out.  Diegel added two RBI to her day with a single up the middle, scoring Dietrich and fellow rookie Taylor Mack.  The Blue and White jammed the bags again after a Miles free pass.  Cooper scored on Gallagher's fielder's choice.  Freshman Brianna Milillo reached on a Delaware Valley error, allowing Diegel to score.

Diegel finished the nightcap with a 2-3 effort with two RBI and two runs scored.  Savar matched the junior's two RBI, while Miles crossed the plate twice.  Gallagher earned the victory after allowing one earned run on five hits.

The Cavaliers return to CSAC play on Saturday as they visit Scranton, Pa. to face Marywood University (8-6, 7-1 CSAC).  First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
