Box Score 2 RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini softball team fell to 12-15 on the season after today's nonconference losses to Wesley College. The Cavaliers suffered 8-3 and 6-5 losses to the Wolverines today at Cabrini Field.
Freshman
Amber Dietrich led the Blue and White in the opener, going 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. Fellow rookie
Lindsay Savar added two base hits, while junior
Steph Diegel knocked in a pair of runs.
The Cavaliers fell behind early, as the Wolverines plated three runs in the top of the second inning. Cabrini got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore
Molly McDougall's single through the left side scored freshman
Brianna Milillo.
Wesley added a run in the top of the fifth, but Diegel's double to right centerfield scored Dietrich, keeping the deficit at two runs. The Wolverines broke the game open in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs on six hits. Cabrini tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with no outs, but mustered just one run on Diegel's sacrifice fly.
Wesley jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, as well, plating three runs on three hits in the top of the third. Cabrini got one of the runs back in the bottom of the frame as Diegel hit her second home run of the season.
The Wolverines extended their lead to 5-1 with a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Blue and White used its power to tie the score. Freshman
Taylor Mack led off the inning with a bunt single before scoring on Dietrich's two run home run to left field, her sixth of the year. The next batter, freshman
Natalie Giannascoli, double to centerfield and scored on the team's second two run home of the inning, this one coming off Cooper's bat, her second round tripper of the season.
The Cavaliers threatened to break the deadlock in the bottom of the fifth inning, as it loaded the bases with one out, but failed to push a run across the plate. The Wolverines took advantage of their opportunity in the top of the sixth inning, plating the winning run. The Cavaliers went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth, before the game was called due to darkness.
Dietrich added another 3-4 performance in game two including her home run, knocking in two runs and scoring another. Junior
Becca Miles, Mack and fellow rookie
Taylor Gallagher recorded two base hits each, while Cooper recorded two RBI in the loss.
The Cavaliers have little time to regroup as they visit Widener College (15-7) tomorrow. First pitch of the nonconference doubleheader is slated for 5:00 p.m.
